COUPLE WON OVER BY MAWSON’S COUNTRY CHARM

A LOCATION in the countryside was the number one priority for John and Lesley Marsh when they decided to build their new home.

The couple’s wish was granted when they found their dream block at Devine’s Mawson Green community at Meadows, in the Adelaide Hills.

“I was born in the country and I always hated living in the suburbs,” said John. “I wanted to live in a small community where people actually talked to one another, instead of ignoring each other.

“We heard about Mawson Green when we were talking to our builder, Statesman. They suggested that it would be the perfect community for us.” John, a remedial therapist, and Lesley, an OHS specialist, took a drive out to Mawson Green and were immediately won over by the community, which is known for its spacious homesites. Land sizes range from 800sqm to 1,800sqm. “It had what we what we wanted down to a tee,” John said.

The couple purchased an 800sqm block that was “big, but not too big”. Last month, John and Lesley moved into their new, four-bedroom home and they say they love the “country atmosphere”. “I like how quiet it is here at night,” John said.

“In the city, there would be sirens going off or cars screaming down the streets every night. At Meadows, the town stops at 8pm. “People also talk to each other here. At the moment, I know everyone living in the community. It’s really laid back.”

John said he would definitely recommending building a new home. “It’s one of the easiest ways to own your house,” he said. “You get the house that you want, but you don’t have to save up a big as deposit. There are not as many loop holes to jump through when you build your new home.”

COUNTRY LIVING HITS THE RIGHT SPOT

A SPONTANEOUS drive through the countryside ended up completely changing the lives of Mawson Green’s new residents Tim and Jaime Murphy.

Tim and Jaime said it was “by chance” that they heard about Devine’s Mawson Green community in Meadows, in the Adelaide Hills.

“One day, while my wife was pregnant, we decided to go for a drive through the hills,” Tim said. “We drove through a nice town and saw a sign for a new estate that was to be built there. We drove back and had a look at the sign for Mawson Green, but we never thought we’d be able to live there.”

At the time, Tim and Jaime had been living in a metropolitan suburb in northwest Adelaide, but after their daughter was born became unhappy with the area and the educational facilities available.

“We wanted to live in a small community with a local school and a country atmosphere, but was close enough to the city,” he said.

“When the opportunity arose for us to move, we both thought we should look up ‘that place in the hills’. We contacted the sales consultant and within three weeks we had signed up. It was a big chance to take, but it was an easy decision.”

The couple purchased an 800sqm block where they have built a four-bedroom, two-garage home. Due to the large size of the property, Tim has also been able to build a big shed and a cubby house for Summer.

The family moved into their new home in late December.

“We’ve been here for four weeks now and Mawson Green is a relaxing environment to come home to. There’s so much space and the air is fresh,” Tim said.

“We’re in our own oasis here, out of the rat race.”

Located just 45 minutes from Adelaide, Mawson Green is close to attractions including the McLaren Vale winery region, south coast beaches and Mount Barker.

Approximately six hectares of Mawson Green will be retained as public open space, with a path network to be built along the creek and wetlands.
